Tacos Las Californias: Best Quesabirria Tacos in Tampa
In the off chance you haven’t heard of the quesabirria tacos craze that’s been sweeping the Tampa Bay area, it’s a delicious food trend that is 100% worth trying. Quesabirria tacos feature braised beef, white cheese, cilantro and onions in corn tortillas, that are folded and fried on both sides. A flavorful consommé is made from the braised beef, for the tacos to be dunked into.
While I haven’t tried all of the spots offering quesabirria tacos just yet, I have tried most of them, and can confidently say that Tacos Las Californias (Facebook/Instagram) offers the best quesabirria tacos you’ll find.
For just $10, Tacos Las Californias serves up three quesabirria tacos with a side of consommé for dipping, a lime wedge and a 2 oz. side of guacamole that is perfect for cutting the richness of the braised beef. (From April 20 through May 5, Tacos Las Californias is offering $2 street tacos and three quesabirria tacos for $8 during the Tampa Bay Taco Takeover). The tortillas are consistently crispy and each bite always results in a delightful cheese pull. And these quesabirria tacos certainly do not lack flavor! When I first tried these delicious tacos, I couldn’t stop thinking to myself, “The consommé is so drinkable!” and others must have relayed the same sentiment, because the owners then added birria ramen to their menu.
They offer a birria ramen combo for $12, which features instant ramen noodles with the braised beef and consommé, served with two mini quesabirria tacos for dipping. No matter the weather (it could be 80-degrees outside), the birria ramen combo is hands down my favorite thing to order from Tacos Las Californias. It is so good.
The quesabirria tacos and birria ramen aren’t the only delicious things on the menu; the carne asada fries are incredible as well! I also love ordering their agua frescas, the horchata is my favorite and is only available on certain days.
If you’re looking for the best spot that will really make an impression on your first experience with a quesabirria taco, Tacos Las Californias is the place to start. You will not be disappointed!
